[ARCHIVED] VITA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

File income taxes with VITA for free from home or in person at Woodbridge Human Services

Woodbridge VITA will offer clients who qualify an opportunity to have their taxes completed for free by an IRS-certified volunteer in person or online with assistance. In partnership with the IRS and the Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS), the Woodbridge VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is available to prepare income tax returns at no cost for qualifying residents.  Basic eligibility: The VITA program is for individuals who generally make $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. Also, individuals who are self-employed should have business expenses less than $25,000, and individuals should not have income from a rental property.  VITA cannot assist with returns which include rental income or cryptocurrency transactions.  Click here for more information on what services VITA can provide 

If you have a computer or camera phone and an email address, you can begin the process for free beginning January 31 at 

This secure VITA website was created to serve the virtual needs of the VITA program. To use this website, you will be directed to fill out the intake 

questionnaire and upload specific documents. Your secure file will be conveyed to a tax preparer who will contact you to review your return for accuracy. You will receive a copy of your Federal and State returns via email to be electronically signed before they are e-filed. Please allow up to two weeks for an update. 


Taxpayers who are unable to access a computer, camera phone are encouraged to call Woodbridge Human Services at (203) 389-3429 to schedule an in-person appointment with a VITA tax preparer. VITA will be here on Tuesdays from 2/7/23 through 4/11/23.  If Tuesday is not convenient for you, there are other VITA sites available. Click here  to find another site.  Once you have an appointment, please be prepared to bring all necessary documents including but not limited to 1099 forms, W2 forms, photo ID and social security card(s) for all listed on your return. If you have not filed with Woodbridge VITA in recent years, please bring a copy of your last return. The IRS provides a list of specific documents you may need.


The VITA program has operated for over 50 years, offering free tax help to people with low to moderate income, senior citizens, as well as people with disabilities and limited English. Volunteer preparers are annually trained and certified to IRS standards.
