[ARCHIVED] Town Prepares for Winter Storm

The Town of Woodbridge is taking steps to prepare for the winter storm.

Tuesday afternoon First Selectman Beth Heller met with Woodbridge Police, Public Works, Human Services and Regional Animal Control department heads to coordinate the response to the predicted storm anticipated to arrive the evening of Wednesday Dec. 16.

“Woodbridge department heads all understand their roles in an emergency. These departments train and plan for events like this and they are implementing their emergency plans,” said Heller.

Residents are encouraged to stay off the roads and shelter in place Wednesday evening through Thursday. A parking ban is in effect for on-street parking Wednesday at noon through Thursday afternoon. Town road crews were pre-treating roads Wednesday afternoon. They will be working throughout the storm and after the storm until cleanup is complete.

Please organize a plan for you and your family should there be an emergency — especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. In advance of the storm First Selectman Heller reminds residents to stock up on water, nonperishable food, candles, flashlights and batteries and to call neighbors, friends and family to check in on them. During and after the storm residents should make sure that vent pipes are not blocked to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

Downed and dangerous wires should be reported to 911. Assume all downed wires are live – do not touch them!

The Town’s Transfer Station will be closed Thursday.

Human Services maintains an emergency call list for residents who would like to be contacted prior to and following local emergencies. Contact 203-389-3429 to be added to the list.
