[ARCHIVED] Woodbridge Residents Invited to Upcoming Carpooling Information Sessions

The Town of Woodbridge invites residents to two events to learn about the benefits of carpooling and to find their carpool match. Carpooling saves money on parking and gas, reduces traffic and reduces participants’ carbon footprint.

The Town has partnered with CTrides and Yale University to encourage residents to carpool. Yale is hosting an event on Tuesday, Oct. 16 for Woodbridge residents who work at Yale, and the JCC is hosting an event open to the public on Thursday Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.

At each event attendees will learn the benefits of carpooling and how to handle the logistics. Questions will be answered and time will be allotted for networking to find a carpool partner. Those who do find a carpooling partner will be allowed to park at the JCC on a trial basis.

Attendees will be encouraged to give sharing a ride a chance on a special “Try It Day,” October 24.

“I hope that residents will consider carpooling to work if possible,” said First Selectman Beth Heller. “Traffic in Woodbridge can be terrible and the current State Department of Transportation project will make it worse temporarily before it improves. Please attend one of these events to find out how you can save money and help reduce traffic.”

The construction project is scheduled to last through September 2019.

In addition to this carpool initiative, the Town’s Ad Hoc Sustainability Committee is also hoping to encourage residents to get out of their cars to save money and reduce traffic. The Committee recently held a kick-off meeting for a Complete Streets Team, the goal of which is to make the roads safe for all users including pedestrians, cyclists and bus riders.

This municipal partnership with CTrides is the first of its kind. Normally CTrides works with large employers to encourage employees to find choice commuting modes, including carpooling. CTrides is a free service provided by the Connecticut Department of Transportation that provides planning and free commuting resources to businesses, employees and residents in Connecticut.

“We are thrilled that the Town approached us about this partnership,” said Commuter Program Manager Joanne Cavadini. “Woodbridge is being proactive about its traffic problem and we are happy to help residents.”

CTrides’ website offers tools to help commuters find carpools and public transportation options and to earn rewards and track savings.
