[ARCHIVED] Storm Update and Primary News

The following was sent via enewsletter on Aug. 6:

Dear Woodbridge Neighbors,

 Storm Update

Our Police, Fire and Public Works departments are working closely with United Illuminating’s "Make Safe" teams to clear trees off roads, detangle wires from trees and restore power. This is dangerous, painstaking work and it takes time. Please be patient and stay safe.

DO NOT touch downed wires or trees that are touching wires -- you should assume they are live, energized wires that could kill you.

As of this morning there were still 17 impassable streets. We are not receiving restoration updates from UI so, although I would like to give you an update and an estimate on when your power will be restored, I cannot. As you may have seen, Governor Lamont is calling for an investigation: "The governor said that the companies’ response to the storm has been wholly inadequate and does not meet the obligations for the critical resources they are responsible for providing on behalf of Connecticut residents."

If you have lost power and need to charge your devices we have set up a generator in the shared Center Building/Library parking lot where you can charge. During regular business hours there is also an extension cord with a power strip for charging on the window air conditioner outside the Senior Center office.

If you need water, potable water is available from two spigots: The Center Building "Boys" door on the Library side of the building and the front of the Fire House -- you’ll need to bring a bucket or jug. You are required to wear a mask if you come to access any of these services.

Sign up here to receive UI Outage Alerts or, text "REG" to 839-884 (TEXT-UI) to receive outage alerts by text message, email, or voice message.

If you are using a generator please make sure it is at least 15 feet from your home and pointing away from your home’s windows and doors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Presidential Preference Primary Deadlines

The Primary will be held on Tuesday August 11. Polls will be open from 6 am to 8 pm in the Senior Center cafeteria in the Center Building (4 Meetinghouse Lane). Masks are required.

All voters who are registered Republican or Democrat and have not submitted an absentee ballot may vote in person.

August 6 is the deadline for new voters, and for unaffiliated voters, to enroll in a party for voting in its primary using the online registration: voterregistration.ct.gov

August 8 is the deadline for new voters to mail in voter registration applications -- they must be postmarked, or received by Registrar of Voters by this date. For unaffiliated voters enrolling in a party, the mail-in application must be received (not merely postmarked) by the Registrar of Voters by this deadline also.

August 10 at noon is the deadline for Unaffiliated voters to register with a party in person. Please call the Town Clerk (203-389-3422, 203-389-3423 or 203-389-3424) for an appointment for in-person registration. Masks are required.

You may also vote by absentee ballot. To receive an absentee ballot, an application must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s Office up until the day before the election. (This link will be bring you to the application.) Applications may be requested until the day before the primary. If you want to vote absentee and do not have a ballot or application yet call the Town Clerk’s office ASAP.

Applications may be returned via: fax, 203-389-3473, email to townclerk@woodbridgect.org; or mail to the Town Clerk’s Office at Woodbridge Town Hall. Please call the Town Clerk’s Office with any questions at 203-389-3424. Feel free to leave a voice message, as all calls will be returned.

Once you have a ballot you may drop it off in the ballot box in front of Town Hall.

As always, my door is virtually open to you. If you need to reach me please call 203-389-3401 or email me at bheller@woodbridgect.org. Please be patient and stay safe, Woodbridge!
