Learn “How to Build a Diverse Family Library”

draft flyer

The Town of Woodbridge is proud to offer the second of a series of outreach initiatives dedicated to the topics of diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. These “Community Conversations” have been developed by the Woodbridge ad-hoc Community Council, in collaboration with other groups such as Beecher Road School and the Woodbridge Town Library.  More than 100 people participated online for the first event in August that featured Dr. Ed Gordon, confirming that these topics are of interest to area residents.

“How to Build a Diverse Family Library” is the topic for the next virtual program, to be held on Wednesday, November 18th at 7:30pm. Building on the IDEA theme (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access), panelists will share books geared to children in grades K-5.

If you missed the event you may watch a recording at the link below.

Panelists include representatives from the Woodbridge Library Children’s Department, People Get Ready Bookstore in New Haven,  the Beecher Road School Library and Jack and Jill of America. The event will be moderated by Tahera Parvez, a member of the Beecher Road School Diversity Committee and the ad hoc Community Council.

Each panelist will “show and tell” a small variety of books that feature diversity in cultural backgrounds, family structure, geography, or socio-economic status.  Beecher Road School Librarian Larissa Crocco will share tips and suggestions on how to infuse more equity, social justice and culturally responsive books into home reading nooks. People Get Ready is offering 15% of all books using the code WOODBRIDGEREADS2020 - just write it in the comments section - of any purchase at www.peoplegetreadybooks.com. Valid through 12/31/20
